The first Canterbury Poets event at The Orange Street Club was a success, with readings from poetry collection Stubborn Mule Orchestra by Gary Studley, Chris Hobday and Luigi Marchini. There then followed readings by Lexi McCudden,
who has been widely published on the local scene, and came down from
London to support the event. Canterbury Poet of the Year 2007 Vicky Wilson then read a selection of her excellent material. A good impression of a bad compere! | The great Vicky Wilson. Yes, we do need to take better photos! |
The standard of material read out in the Open Mic section was very high indeed, with readings from Alison Grinney, Pat Griffin, Sindy Tyrell and Sue Rose. Unfortunately, many, many people did not get the opportunity to read, but Steve, Lyn, Nancy, Jeremy, Jo, Fran, Geraldine and Lorraine are assured that they will get first refusal at September's meeting.
Gary Studley read first... much to his surprise. We were SO organised. Those who attended are very welcome indeed to send a selection of poems for publication on this site, and should click here for more information. I would also like to hear from you regarding ways to improve future events. Next
month, the event will begin at 6:00pm on the dot, to try and get as
many people on stage as possible. I was pleased with the turnout and
overjoyed to see a dozen names down on the Open Mic list. Clearly, the
Open Mic section needs to be at least 30 minutes, if not more, in
future. So, a huge THANKYOU to everyone who read, and
everyone who came to support this first event. Thanks also to Adam at
Orange Street for providing such a perfect venue.I hope to see you all again in September.
